Great News About One of Our Board Members

17 Jun

We here at Young Audiences are pleased to announce that our own Board Member, L. Jan Robertson, has received a pretty substantial promotion at the company where she works.  Following is the official press release;

Portland, Oregon (June 13, 2011) – Norris, Beggs & Simpson Companies, one of Portland’s oldest and largest full-service commercial real estate companies, is ushering in a new era in its leadership, including its first female CEO. Jan Robertson will serve as NBS Companies’ CEO, while J. Clayton Hering will be

Chairman of the Board. Two of the company’s divisions are gaining new presidents: Chris Johnson will serve as President of NAI Norris, Beggs & Simpson, and Ken Griggs will be President of NBS Financial Services. The attached chart illustrates the new structure.

Robertson’s career path has been unique. She joined NBS in 1981 in an administrative position, and quickly rose into management, becoming a partner in 1993. She has served as CFO since 2005. Robertson is involved in many industry organizations, including IREM and NAIOP. She is also a strong supporter of arts in education, holding leadership positions in organizations such as Young Audiences and the Regional Arts & Culture Council.

“Jan is simply the best person to run this company,” Hering said. “As CFO she’s had to make tough decisions, which she has ably done, while always keeping the well-being of our employees and clients first and foremost.”

Steve Janik, founding partner and Chairman of Ball Janik LLP, has worked extensively with the company and Robertson.

“Jan is dedicated, tenacious and loyal, and will excel as CEO,” Janik said. “Norris, Beggs & Simpson has a well-deserved reputation for excellence, and Jan is ideally suited to lead the company. This new management structure is well designed to ensure the continuation of the company’s delivery of excellent client services and strong internal management for the years ahead.”

As Chairman of the Board, a newly created position, Hering will continue to be involved in areas like strategic planning, mentoring, business development and community involvement, but his role in day-to-day operations, like administrative functions, will be reduced.

As mentioned, Chris Johnson, one of Portland’s top investment and office leasing brokers and a longtime partner in NBS Companies, will serve as President of NAI Norris, Beggs & Simpson. H. Roger Qualman will be Chief Operating Officer, overseeing the brokerage and property management divisions. Qualman has managed the company’s Vancouver office since 2000 and been with the company since 1985. Jeff Borlaug, Principal and Managing Director of Brokerage, who became a partner earlier this year, will increase his management responsibility in our Portland brokerage operations.

Ken Griggs will assume the role of President of NBS Financial Services. An experienced mortgage banker and managing partner, Griggs has been with NBS Financial since 1993, and has frequently been a company Top Producer.

“The partners who are stepping into new roles have an incredible breadth and depth of experience,” Hering said. “This new leadership structure will spread out responsibility among them, which is a win-win for both the company and our clients.”
